Why you should switch your cotton pillowcase for silk
I had never put much thought on the material of the pillowcase I slept on, then entered silk pillowcase. First thought that came to my mind was, what is the hype about?
A little digging I found out about how sleeping on a silk pillowcase is so much better than cotton, not only you feel like a princess, you’ll wake up without your hair all messed up, and also without those depressing sleep creases. Whoever quotes the phrase ‘beauty sleep’, used to sleep on a silk pillowcase indeed.
Is Silk worth the hype?
“Although your cotton pillowcase may feel soft, tossing and turning throughout the night creates friction that can be damaging to the hair follicle, resulting in frizzy locks”, says famous dermatologist Dr. Sasha Crahen. Mulberry silk being the highest quality silk, lets your hair move freely, there is no friction or tugging, which means you wake up with smooth shiny hair. Cotton also absorbs moisture from your hair, which makes your hair more prone to damage, not to mention it’s absorbing all your expensive skincare and haircare products onto the pillow while you sleep.
The tugging also affects your skin, the friction results in sleep creases. Over time these sleep creases turn into permanent wrinkles. Silk keeps you skin hydrated and moisturized, a healthy and anti wrinkle skin is all that you could wish for.
Silk fabrics are antibacterial and hypoallergenic, which means they are less harmful bacteria, which is great if you have acne-prone skin. Silk fabrics are known to be less irritating to the skin and lightweight, anyone that has less sensitive skin will find silk much more helpful compared to a cotton one.
A bonus for summer time, silk doesn't conduct heat, meaning it stays at body temperature. No more pillow flipping.
